14MAY18_XXXXXL56ENDIA: An Unforgettable Experience
It was the 14th of May, 2018 and I was embarking on a journey of a lifetime. I had landed in India for a vacation, filled with excitement and wonder. As I walked out of the airport, I could feel the heat and humidity of the Indian summer – a stark contrast from the cool breeze of my hometown.
My first destination was the Taj Mahal, a place I had only seen in pictures and read about in books. As I stood in front of this magnificent structure, I was awe-struck by its grandeur and beauty. The intricate designs and patterns on the white marble walls were a testament to the skilled craftsmanship of the Mughal era.
My journey continued through the bustling streets of Delhi, the serene backwaters of Kerala, and the majestic forts and palaces of Rajasthan. Each place had its own unique charm and left me with unforgettable memories.
As I reflect on my trip to India, I realize how much I have learned about its rich culture, traditions and people. The warmth and hospitality of the locals made me feel welcomed and at home. The diverse cuisine tantalized my taste buds and the vibrant colors of the traditional attire left me mesmerized.
I returned from my trip with a newfound appreciation for the beauty and diversity of India, a country that continues to fascinate and intrigue me even today.

As we landed in India, I was jumping with excitement. The thought of exploring a new country filled my little heart with joy. I was eager to see the sights, taste new foods, and meet new people.
The first thing I noticed about India was the vibrant colors everywhere. The women wore brightly colored saris and the men wore colorful turbans and kurtas. Even the houses and buildings were painted in vibrant shades of pink, blue and yellow.
My favorite part of the trip was the elephant ride at Amber Fort. I was thrilled to sit on the back of an elephant and watch the world go by. The view from the top of the fort was breathtaking – the hills in the distance, the gardens and the palace below.
I also loved the street food. The spicy samosas and the sweet jalebis were my favorites. I even tried the famous Indian drink – chai, which was delicious.
India was different from my own country in so many ways, but what struck me the most was the warmth and kindness of the people. The locals were always smiling and willing to help us with directions or recommendations. I made some wonderful friends during my trip and even learned a few phrases in Hindi.
As we boarded the plane back home, tired but happy, I knew that India had left a lasting impression on me. It had opened my eyes to a new world of possibilities and adventures.
14MAY18_XXXXXL56ENDIAN60: Retracing my roots in India
I had always been curious about my family's roots in India, but it wasn't until I turned 60 that I decided to make the trip back to my ancestral hometown.
The journey was long, but as I stepped off the plane and took in the sights and sounds of India, I knew it was worth it. I was met by distant relatives who welcomed me with open arms and took me to see the places my ancestors had lived in.
Walking through the narrow streets of the town, I could feel a sense of nostalgia and a connection to my past. The old house where my grandparents had lived was still standing, although in disrepair. The local temple where my family had worshipped for generations was still there, still bustling with devotees.
My relatives took me to meet some of the elders in the community who had known my ancestors. They shared stories and anecdotes of their lives, and I felt as though I was getting to know my ancestors in a way I never had before.
India had changed a lot since my ancestors had left, but I could still see glimpses of their world in the colorful markets, the ancient architecture, and the traditional festivals. I was grateful for this trip that allowed me to reconnect with my roots and understand a part of my history that had always been shrouded in mystery.
As I boarded the plane back home, I felt a sense of contentment and fulfillment that only comes from knowing one's past and feeling connected to it. India had given me that gift and I would forever be grateful.
